Introduction to Jiangsu

Jiangsu, abbreviated as “Su”, is named after the Chinese initials of Jiangning and Suzhou. It is located in the central coastal area of China, at the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River. It borders Shanghai and Zhejiang to the southeast. Jiangsu has a total land area of 107,200 km2 . The landscape features hills, plains, lakes and rivers, with a mild climate, fertile soil, and abundant produce, which is known as the “land of fish and rice”. 

Jiangsu has made great progress in economic and social development. In 2022, the province’s GDP reached RMB 12.29 trillion, an increase of 2.8% over the previous year, and the per capita GDP stood at RMB 144,000. The quality of the ecological environment continued to improve, the ratio of good air days in the province reached 79%. 

Since ancient times, Jiangsu has had a brilliant and profound cultural foundation. Jiangsu is one of the cradles of ancient Chinese civilization with rich historical and cultural heritage. Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu, has the history of the ancient capital of six dynasties and is an important historical and cultural city in China. Nanjing is also a wellknown tourist city in China, with many scenic spots such as Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, Confucius Temple and Ming Mausoleum.
