Wuxi

Wuxi is located in East China, south of Jiangsu province.With the Yangtze River to the north, Taihu Lake to the south, and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal running through, it is a typical waterside town at the south bank of the Yangtze River. Known as the "Pearl of Taihu Lake", the city has a total area of 4,627.47 square kilometers, with a permanent population of about 7.495 million. Wuxi has developed water and land transportation. The Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge connects the north and south. The Beijing–Shanghai railway and Beijing Shanghai high-speed railway stretch across Wuxi, while a network of highways including the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, Changchun–Shenzhen Expressway, and Beijing-Shanghai Expressway criss-cross the city. In 2023, Wuxi Shuofang Airport facilitated air travel to 70 domestic and overseas cities.

Wuxi is one of the birthplaces of Wu culture. It has traditionally revered literature and education and is known as the “hometown of professors”, the “cradle of calligraphy and painting”. It is the birthplace of famous figures such as Gu Kaizhi, Xu Xiake, Qian Weichang, Qian Zhongshu, Xu Beihong. There are nearly 100 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering in Wuxi, placing Wuxi at the top among prefecture-level cities in China. The city currently has 

one World Cultural Heritage site, two national heritage parks, and 467 cultural relics protection units. There are 230 intangible cultural heritage items of various types. In recent years, Wuxi has held various high-level cultural and sports events. The Wuxi 

Marathon has become a “double gold” event recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the Chinese Athletics Association (CAA). Wuxi's cultural industry is thriving. Turtle Head Isle (Yuantouzhu), Lingshan Grand Buddha, and historical and cultural areas such as Huishan Ancient Town are renowned throughout the country. 

Wuxi was the cradle of Chinese national industry and commerce. Since the beginning of the 21st century, Wuxi has been vigorously developing its export-oriented economy, private sector, and high tech industries. And the level of its economic development has consistently ranked among the top among large and medium sized cities in China. In the future, Wuxi will focus on strategic emerging industries, advanced manufacturing, and modern service industries, demonstrating the responsibilities of a new era industrial and commercial city in serving the country and 

strengthening the industry.
