Hi, my name is Christine Canning. I am currently the foreign English teacher for grades four and five at La Sa Lu Primary School.

I previously worked for JESIE in 2016 as an English teacher at Lang Ya Lu and Tien Zhen primary schools and in 2012; I taught a range of English and Business subjects to students wanting to undertake tertiary studies abroad.  During this time, I also developed and delivered a number of children’s English programs and I also taught business English to Engineers at the Nanjing Ford Car Company.  

After completing my first contracted year with JESIE in 2012, I joined a private kindergarten in Xinmofamalu, Nanjing for two years.  I was the only English teacher and I taught around 300 children aged three to six years of age.  My position also included teaching English to the kindergarten teachers which was a lot of fun and developing and delivering a range of 16 week courses for children wanting to undertake the kindergarten’s after hour’s English program.  I returned to Australia in January 2015.

Prior to coming to China in 2012, I held a number of project and policy management positions in the Australian Government, across a number of portfolios including: health, education, employment and law.  I have considerable experience in community development and working as part of multiple teams to implement projects at both the local and national level.  However, I started out as a laboratory technician and worked in both biological and hospital pathology laboratories after completing two years of tertiary science studies.  I later continued my tertiary studies and completed my Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Education, followed by post graduate studies in Human Resource Management and Population Health.  I hold a Certificate IV in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL); a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and a Specialisation Certificate in IELTS and TOFEL preparation.

I enjoy teaching and have for a large part of my life been involved in various forms of education, including my own tutoring business for 8 years.  I very pleased to be back as part of JESIE’s highly professional and supportive team.
